The New York City Stamp Act Protests took place at Bowling Green Friday, November 1, 1765
A public historical commemoration took place at Bowling Green Sunday, November 1, 2015 |
The Stamp Tax was imperial Britain’s first attempt at “taxation without
representation.”
It provoked bitter opposition in every colony in North America.
The protests culminated dramatically in New York City on the official day
of implementation—
November 1, 1765
No New Yorker would ever
forget it.
Just over ten years later,
they joined twelve other colonies to declare American independence.
At 4:00 PM on Sunday, November 1,
2015, the Committee for the 250th Anniversary presented
a modern reinterpretation of the protests of our New York City forebears!
